And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us;

And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. 1 John 5:14, 14.

Although God is all-powerful and all-knowing, He has chosen to let us help Him change the world through our prayers. How this works is a mystery to us because of our limited understanding, but it is a reality. Paul urges us to pray for each other and for our leaders in government in 1 Timothy 2:1-6. Our earnest prayers will have powerful results (James 5:16).
